River on a Tray

Materials: Sand, tray, water, watering can, gutter
Activity: Pour sand evenly on a tray. Prop the tray up. Slowly pour water down the tray, at it's highest point. Watch the water form a river, creek, cliffs, island, shoreline or other land form!
Research Question: How does the way you pour affect the shape of the sand?
