Materials: Pulleys, rope
Activity: Hang two pulleys in separate places. Thread rope through the pulleys, and tie the ends together to create a loop. Attach a message to the rope, using a clothespin. Pull the rope to move the message from one pulley to another! Or make a smaller version of this using empty spools of thread on a pencil for pulleys, ribbon for rope, and a paperclip for clothespin.
Research Questions: How does the direction you pull one part of the rope affect where the rest of the rope travels? Which pulley systems requires more effort?
