Colorful Moon Craters

Fri, Apr 12, 2013

Materials: Baking soda, vinegar, food coloring

Activity: Pour baking soda onto a cookie sheet. Fill several cups with vinegar and different colors of food coloring. Use a dropper (or straw) to add drops of colored vinegar onto the piles of baking soda. Watch the vinegar and baking soda make colorful bubbles followed by colored baking soda craters!

Research Questions: How do the addition of certain colors affect the resulting color? How does the volume of vinegar added affect the amount of bubbling?
