Materials: Broom stick, water jug, balance beam

Activity: Make a lever out of a broom stick propped on a balance beam, so it can pivot. Use the lever to lift a water jug. Try propping different parts of the lever on the balance beam and see if it makes it easier or harder to lift the weight.

Research Question: How does the position of the lever on the balance beam affect how hard it is to lift the water jug?
