Materials: Needle, magnet, cup, water
Activity: Make a DIY compass by magnetizing a needle and threading it through wax paper. Float the wax paper in a cup of water. Use the compass to find north. Rotate the cup. Can you change the direction of the needle? Place a magnet near the compass. Can you change the direction of the needle? Compare this to a manufactured compass.
