Water Filter

Materials: 2L soda bottle, cotton balls, paper towels, water, dirt
Activity: Cut top off soda bottle. Invert top onto bottom of soda bottle (so it becomes a funnel and cup). Place cotton balls and paper towels into the bottom of the funnel. Add dirt to water. Pour in dirty water, and watch what filters through, and what get stuck in the filter!
Research Questions: What happens to dirty water when there is no filter. How do certain combinations of cotton ball and paper towel perform as filters? What gets stuck in the filter and what filters through?
