Sink or Float 2011

Materials: Clear cups, water, oil, syrup, grape, lego, cork, penny
Activity: Pour water into one cup, oil into a second cup, and syrup into a third cup. Add grapes, legos corks and pennies to each liquid. What sinks or floats in each liquid? Remove objects. In a fourth cup, first pour some syrup. Then add some water. Then oil. Drop the objects in the liquids.
Research Questions: Do all liquids weigh the same? Do grapes float in each of these liquids? Corks float? Coins sink? Legos float? What happens when you dump all materials in one cup?
