oLife Science: Looking at Critters


Vocabulary: Alike, animal, different, match, animal names, body part names, home, same

Materials: magnifiers, several of the following species (or whatever you can collect): pill bugs, slugs, snails, beetles, earthworms, houseflies, grasshoppers, fish, ants, or any dead insects

Activity: Place animals in viewing containers, clear jars, plastic jars or (for a very short time) plastic bags. Describe physical characteristics such as legs, eyes and bodies. Describe how animals move, and imitate it. Return animals to their habitats.

Measurement: Count physical characteristics.
